There are so many mommy and me classes that dads have come to think that they can’t participate. I have news for you dads! You CAN participate and it’s highly encouraged! Here are some great PARENT AND ME programs that I’ve been involved in that will get you and your little ones moving. The best part – they have classes that are NOT during the work day!
Coach Patty’s Gymnastics (Camarillo)
Located off of Lewis Rd in Camarillo, Coach Patty’s is a wonderful place to be with the little ones! The class is for children 18 months to 3 years old. You do a variety of things in this structured class including singing, doing obstacle courses, jumping on the trampolines, bouncing along the tumble track, diving into the foam pit, balancing on the beams and more! It’s a great 45 minutes to spend with your little munchkin as they build their strength and self-confidence while secretly wearing them out. Depending on what class you choose, monthly rates start at $65. First class is FREE!
Movement, exploration, and music seems to be focus of these classes. Your little one can start as early as 6 weeks old! I credit these classes to my daughter’s confidence and comfort climbing ALL things. The classes are age specific and age appropriate. For example, your 6 week old won’t be expected to walk across the balance beam or jump into a ball pit. Instead, s/he will do little exercises like the bicycle movement with their legs or tummy time. Now, the tiny baby classes – are they worth the month fee of $70 (plus a one time lifetime membership fee of $75)? Not so sure but we paid it because we weren’t enrolled in any other program except for Kindermusik. Nonetheless, it’s a safe and colorful environment that you can play on and with your child. Hip Hip Hooray!
P.S. Discounts are offered for multiple children in the same family.
P.S.S. Schedule a moms play group with at least 5 families and “admission” is only $5 each family. Awesome!
P.S.S.S. First class is FREE!
Kindermusik with Katie (Ventura/Camarillo)
My daughter has been attending these classes since she was tiny. She loves music and to this day, she still loves music (although Princesses would be #1). My son loves music too. These classes are fun for the whole family – there are classes for certain ages of children and there are also family time classes. The instructors always reminds parents that the hour they spend in the class is to focus on their children, NOT to socialize with other parents. I think it’s great because you should focus on your child during these parent AND me classes. Kids learn songs, do fun activities, play with musical instruments, learn how to share and take turns and so much more. The fees for these classes are not on a monthly basis. Rather, you pay by semester which ranges from 6 weeks to 14 weeks. Don’t worry – if you’re ready this post and decide you want to sign up, your tuition will be prorated. Discounts are offered for multiple children from the same family. Mention that Cindy Alexander sent you and maybe Katie will give you a discount of 10% off your tuition (class materials are not included in the discount). First class is FREE!
Family Yoga (Camarillo)
I have to be honest. I haven’t attended this yet but almost 3 years ago I attended a baby massage class at Camarillo Yoga and I thought it was great! I receive emails about the Saturday classes and think to myself, “I can’t wait until the kids are older and I can take the kids to yoga because it sounds so fun!” I encourage you all to check it out. I’m sure you could also email Julie Markovitz, the instructor, for more information if it’s not listed on the Cam Yoga site.
There you have it. 4 great programs in the area. Email us if there are other classes that you think we should check out!Random Comment: Alright Oxnard, what’s up?! Where are YOUR parent and me classes?
